Spring Challenge-May 23

Auction Items for Web Page.doc The first annual "Spring Challenge" will take place at Callahan Park on Friday May 23, 2008 This is a combined fundraiser and wellness event that takes place DURING SCHOOL TIME! Students will be putting their letter writing skills to work by writing personal donation letters. All students will work with Mr. Ahern to set a realistic goal-how many times can I walk/run/gallop/skip around the field @ Callahan Park in 15 minutes. The training to complete a walk/run around the field will occur during the month of May during gym time. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to participate.

We will need parent volunteers to help with during gym time through the month of May, and also on the day of the event. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Tammy Avonda-PTO President.

PTO Goals for 07/08:
1 Increase communication to parents
The Website, twice monthly newsletters, and the school calendars will be coordinated to communicate the same messages about PTO and school events.
2 Fund raising Goal of $33,000 to support the school
PTO fund raisers will be held through out the year to meet this goal. Each fund raiser has been approved and is on the annual calendar. The philosophy is to hold one fund raiser event per month and minimize the events that ask for financial support from our parents!! Please refer to the Advancement site for financial reports and fund raiser results. Funds raised through enrichment events are used to support the enrichment program and do not go toward the PTO budget goal.

Enrichment

Enrichment List.pdf Enrichment: noun The act of enriching or the state of being enriched. Christ the King has multiple enrichment events and activities to enrich families, students and the CKS community as a whole.

Please review the list of enrichment activities. There is something for all grades!! Take note of areas that you may be able to volunteer your time, talents or treasures! In addition, if you are passionate about an enrichment idea, please feel free to bring it up with The Enrichment Committee (Mary Beth Limanek, Linda Terrien, and Denyse Lestrange).

The Enrichment Program is self funded, meaning that funds raised through enrichment activities or events are used to continue and support the enrichment program. Funds raised through the Enrichment Program are separate than funds raised by PTO fundraisers.

News from the Green Team – May 15, 2008
Thanks to everyone who participated in the WAY TO GO! COMMUTER CHALLENGE last week. The school was able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 18 lbs. Reduce your carbon footprint everyday by trying to use an alternative to driving alone, such as; walking, carpooling, biking and taking the bus. Turning your car off instead of idling also makes the air cleaner and healthier for all of us. Green tips this week are about reducing electricity usage. Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs and save $ while saving the earth. Unplugging electronic gadgets (TV, DVD player, computer, stereo) or using power strips and turning them off after each use are also great ways to save on your electric bill and help lower greenhouse gas emissions. THINK GREEN!

The PTO provides opportunities to enhance the learning experiences of its students, to coordinate volunteers and fund raising activities and to offer other means of support. It's a prime opportunity to engage in positive interaction for the benefit of the school population.
